National Service Scheme (NSS)

The National Service Scheme (NSS) at Kasireddy Narayanreddy College of Engineering & Research (KNRR) has been functioning effectively since the formative years of the institution, reflecting the college’s sustained commitment to community engagement, social responsibility, and nation-building. The NSS unit operates in alignment with the objectives and guidelines of the Government of India and serves as a structured platform for student participation in socially relevant and community-oriented activities.

The NSS unit at KNRR aims to sensitize students to societal challenges while fostering essential values such as civic responsibility, national integration, ethical conduct, leadership, and social empathy. Through continuous community-based programmes, students are encouraged to understand the socio-economic environment in which they live and to apply their academic knowledge and technical skills for the benefit of society.

NSS Activities and Outreach Programmes

During the academic years 2024–25 and 2025–26, the NSS unit at KNRR organized and actively participated in a wide range of extension and outreach activities addressing critical areas such as public health, mental well-being, environmental sustainability, social welfare, youth development, national importance, and constitutional values.

These initiatives included programmes related to health awareness, yoga and wellness, anti-drug campaigns, blood donation drives, cleanliness and sanitation activities, environmental conservation, voter awareness, and the observance of important national and international days. Such activities provided students with valuable experiential learning opportunities while strengthening their sense of social accountability and community engagement.

NSS Symbol and Significance

The NSS symbol, inspired by the Rath Wheel of the Konark Sun Temple, signifies movement, continuity, and progress. It embodies the philosophy of sustained service and social transformation, reinforcing the NSS objective of continuous involvement of youth in constructive community action.

NSS Day

NSS Day, observed annually on 24th September, commemorates the launch of the National Service Scheme in 1969, coinciding with the birth centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi. At KNRR, NSS Day is observed through well-structured programmes emphasizing Gandhian ideals of selfless service, discipline, social harmony, and national integration.

Programme Outcomes (POs) and Programme Specific Outcomes (PSOs)
Mapping through NSS Activities

The National Service Scheme (NSS) at Kasireddy Narayanreddy College of Engineering & Research (KNRR) plays a significant role in contributing to the attainment of Programme Outcomes (POs) and Programme Specific Outcomes (PSOs) by effectively integrating community engagement with academic learning and professional skill development.

Contribution to Programme Outcomes (POs)

PO1 – Engineering Knowledge

NSS activities enable students to apply engineering knowledge to real-life community issues such as health awareness, sanitation, environmental protection, and public safety.

PO2 – Problem Analysis

Through community surveys, awareness programmes, and social campaigns, students identify societal problems and analyse them from technical, social, and ethical perspectives.

PO3 – Design and Development of Solutions

NSS initiatives encourage students to conceptualize and propose practical, sustainable, and socially relevant solutions, particularly in areas related to environment, health, and quality of life.

PO6 – Engineer and Society

NSS strongly supports this outcome by sensitizing students to social responsibilities, legal frameworks, public policies, and ethical issues that impact society.

PO7 – Environment and Sustainability

Activities such as tree plantation drives, cleanliness campaigns, and environmental awareness programmes directly contribute to environmental sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

PO9 – Individual and Team Work

NSS programmes promote teamwork, collaboration, and collective responsibility through group-based planning and execution of community service activities.

PO10 – Communication

Students develop effective communication skills by interacting with diverse communities, organizing awareness programmes, and participating in public outreach initiatives.

PO12 – Life-long Learning

NSS nurtures adaptability, empathy, and continuous learning by exposing students to diverse social environments and real-world challenges.
